Report: Man Utd ready to meet asking price to sign 30-goal striker

Manchester United are ready to meet Wissam Ben Yedder’s £35.8m release clause as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to find a replacement for Romelu Lukaku

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Wissam Ben Yedder….

Manchester United are ready to meet Wissam Ben Yedder’s £35.8m release clause as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to find a replacement for wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku, according to reports via the Independent.

Lukaku is being strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer with his agent spotted at their offices this week so Solskjaer will need to bring in a striker to fill his boots if the Belgian international seals a transfer to Italy.

The Independent quote a story from ABC de Sevilla – which actually originates from France Football magazine – that claims Man Utd have identified Ben Yedder as a potential replacement for Lukaku.

The report says United are ready to trigger the 28-year-old’s £35.8m release clause and hope to fend off rival interest from the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain to lure Ben Yedder to Old Trafford this summer.

Any potential deal appears to be contingent on Lukaku joining Inter Milan but Ben Yedder would be an exciting replacement if United were successful in their pursuit of the French international.

Ben Yedder has proven to be an excellent signing for Sevilla since arriving from Toulouse in 2016 with the striker providing 30 goals and 11 assists in his 54 appearances in all competitions last season.

United know his talent only too well as Ben Yedder scored a quick-fire double for Sevilla to knock the Manchester giants out of the Champions League back in March 2018.

He’s also been recognised at international level as Ben Yedder earned his fourth cap for the French national team earlier this month, scoring his first goal during the 4-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win against Andorra.

The striker has just two years left on his current contract so Sevilla may feel now is the time to cash-in unless he signs a new extension that would no doubt dramatically increase his release clause.

We’ll have to wait and see how things play out with Lukaku over the coming days but I think Ben Yedder would be a solid replacement and £35.8m seems like a great deal in today’s market for a player of his quality.
