Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Arsenal’s bid to sign Kieran Tierney…
Arsenal have tabled an improved offer worth £25m including add ons for Kieran Tierney but Celtic are still holding out for more, according to Football Scotland.
Unai Emery needs to strengthen his defensive options this summer after Arsenal conceded 70 goals in all competitions last season and Tierney has been identified as the man to add some stability to the left-back position.
Nacho Monreal is 33 and spent much of last season playing on the left side of a back three while Sead Kolasinac was deployed as a left wing-back but neither player convinced while playing as a traditional left-back.
Emery is seemingly after a player who can play both positions down the left side and Tierney is the ideal candidate having impressed for Celtic since breaking into the first team set-up four years ago.
The 22-year-old is a vital part of Neil Lennon’s starting eleven and has made 170 appearances for the first team since coming through the youth ranks but it looks like Tierney could be tempted by a move south of the boarder this summer.
Football Scotland claims that although the Scottish international is happy to remain at his boyhood club for another year, he’s open to the idea of joining Arsenal if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.
It seems Arsenal have tested Celtic’s resolve with a new bid as Football Scotland says we’ve now tabled an improved offer worth £17.5m up front with a further £7.5m coming in performance-based add ons related to Tierney’s appearances and Arsenal’s success in the league and in Europe.
However, we’ll have to dig a little deeper as the publication claims Celtic have knocked back the offer as they felt the add ons were unrealistic given Arsenal have struggled to challenge for major honours in recent years.
