Unai Emery has asked his Arsenal bosses to launch a move for Dani Alves and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign the out-of-contract full-back on a free transfer this summer, according to reports via the Metro.
Alves has been one of the best right-backs in world football over the past decade as he’s won a whole host of honours during hugely successful spells at Barcelona, Juventus and PSG while he’s also been capped by Brazil 115 times since making his debut in 2006.
The 36-year-old showed he’s still at the top of his game after playing a key role in helping the Samba Boys win the Copa America this summer and Alves has sparked a scramble for his signature after confirming he’s leaving PSG after running down his contract.
The Metro claims Tottenham have already held talks with Alves’s agent about a move to White Hart Lane as Mauricio Pochettino looks for a potential replacement for Kieran Trippier amid speculation he could be on the move to Italy.
However, not only are Man City also reportedly in the running for the defenders signature but the Metro are citing a report from Mundo Deportivo that claims Arsenal have now joined the chase to sign Alves this summer.
The Spanish publication says Emery has instructed his Arsenal bosses to make a move to sign Alves with the Gunners now set to battle it out with Tottenham and City over a free transfer deal.
Emery is desperately trying to strengthen his squad on tight budget this summer and the Arsenal coach needs to tighten things up at the back after they conceded 51 Premier League goals last season.
Alves would provide top class competition for Hector Bellerin – who’s working his way back to full fitness from a serious knee injury – and Emery would be reunited with the Brazilian after they worked together during their time at PSG.

It would be a major coup for whichever club ends up landing Alves as he’d be an excellent short-term signing but TeamTalk suggests the right-back will demand at least £200,000-a-week so the likes of Arsenal and Spurs will have to be prepared to pay him big wages.
