Manchester United have stepped-up their interest in Arsenal and Liverpool target Nicolas Pepe after holding talks with Lille about a deal for the £70m-rated attacker, according to The Times.
Pepe has been one of the hottest properties in European football this summer after enjoying a superb campaign last season that saw him score 23 goals and provide a further 12 assists to help Lille finish second in the Ligue 1 table behind champions PSG.
The 24-year-old’s sensational form has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with L’Equipe, via GFFN, reporting that Lille were waiting for Pepe to make a decision over his future after Arsenal and Liverpool had both submitted formal offers for the player.
The French publication suggested that the English duo had tabled offers worth in the region of £72m and that should be enough to satisfy Lille’s demands as The Times claim the French club are ready to sell for anything above £70m.
Unai Emery is desperately trying to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season and Pepe has seemingly been identified as a potential replacement for Wilfried Zaha after Arsenal failed to agree terms with Crystal Palace for the winger.
Jurgen Klopp has also been strongly linked with Pepe throughout the summer window as the Liverpool boss looks to bring in support for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane next season.
However, it looks like Arsenal and Liverpool will face further competition as The Times says Manchester United are trying to hijack their rivals’ move after holding talks with Lille about a deal for the Ivory Coast international.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to further strengthen his squad over the next two weeks and the newspaper says United would fund a move for Pepe with the money raised from the sale of Romelu Lukaku with the Belgian hitman strongly tipped for a move to Inter Milan this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I think Pepe would be an excellent signing for Arsenal, Liverpool or United if any of the English giants were able to lure him to the Premier League.
