Arsenal’s proposed deal under threat as Man Utd eye move for 25-year-old star
Man Utd could be set to hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign Daniele Rugani as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his defensive options
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, the race for Daniele Rugani hots-up…
Manchester United could be set to hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his defensive options, according to reports in Italy via the Mirror.
Rugani’s future at Juve is in doubt as he struggled to secure regular first team football last season having only made 20 appearances in all competitions and he’s set to fall further down the pecking order following the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax.
Juventus are reportedly open to letting Rugani leave this summer as the Serie A champions need to balance the books and Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent days.
The Daily Mail cite reports coming out of Italy that claim the Gunners have tabled an offer to take Rugani on loan for the next two years as Unai Emery tries desperately to strengthen his defence before the window closes next week.
Laurent Koscielny is trying to force a move back to France while Shkodran Mustafi is being tipped to leave the Emirates this summer so Arsenal need to sign a new centre-back and it appears Rugani is firmly on Emery’s radar.
However, it looks like the Londoners could face stiff competition as the Mirror are citing a report from the newspaper version of Gazzetta dello Sport that claims Man Utd are also eyeing a swoop to sign Rugani.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been trying to bring in a top class central defender all summer but United have so far been frustrated in their attempts to sign prime target Harry Maguire from Leicester City.
With Eric Bailly ruled out for up to five months with a serious knee injury, Man Utd need to sign at least one more centre-back before the window slams shut on August 8 and the report suggests they are now eyeing Rugani.
The 25-year-old was once regarded as one of the best young defenders in Italian football but his career has stalled in recent years due to a lack of regular football and it seems he could be offered a fresh start here in England.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think the Italian international would be an excellent signing for Arsenal or United if either team could get a deal agreed with Juventus.
