Tottenham launch bid to hijack Arsenal’s ‘deal’, Liverpool & Man Utd also interested
Tottenham have launched a bid to hijack Arsenal’s proposed deal for Philippe Coutinho while Liverpool and Manchester United are also interested.
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, the latest on Philippe Coutinho…
It’s been a hectic day surrounding the future of Philippe Coutinho with Tottenham reportedly trying to hijack’s Arsenal loan deal for the Barcelona star while Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with the midfielder.
Coutinho has been strongly linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer after struggling to settle following his big-money move from Liverpool 18 months ago and he was booed by sections of his own fan-base at times last season.
With Barcelona splashing out on the likes of Antoine Griezmann and being linked with Neymar, Coutinho is likely to fall down the pecking order in Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven this season and he’s been tipped for a return to the Premier League this summer.
It looked like Coutinho was heading for a shock move to the Emirates as L’Equipe claimed earlier today that Arsenal had agreed to sign the South American on a season-long loan deal.
talkSPORT quickly responded to the report by claiming that Arsenal were one of four English clubs trying to sign Coutinho but were facing stiff competition from Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United.
The report says Coutinho wants to return to the Premier League and talkSPORT claims the English quartet have all expressed their interest in signing him after Barca agreed to let him leave on loan.
However, it looks like Spurs could be the club who’ve moved into pole position as The Times claim Tottenham have launched a bid to sign Coutinho on loan but Barcelona are demanding around £21m to take the Brazilian international on a short-term deal.
Mauricio Pochettino has been trying to sign an attacking midfielder all summer after Christian Eriksen expressed his desire to seek a new challenge and it looks like Spurs have identified Coutinho as an alternative to Giovani Lo Celso after struggling to agree terms with Real Betis.
A move to Tottenham would make more sense than Arsenal for Coutinho as the Gunners aren’t in need of attacking reinforcements having signed Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe this summer.
A return to Liverpool may appeal to the 27-year-old due to his close affinity to the European Champions but Jurgen Klopp distanced himself from any move for Coutinho recently and it remains to be seen whether his stance has changed.
Coutinho’s agent all-but ruled out a move to Man Utd last month due to their rivalry with Liverpool so it would be a surprise if he ended up moving to Old Trafford but stranger things have happened in football.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but it looks like Coutinho is on the market this summer and he would be a major coup for any Premier League club if they could win the race for his signature.
