We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, Arsenal are eyeing two defenders…
Arsenal remain in talks to sign Kieran Tierney and are also eyeing a swoop for Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti as Unai Emery tries to land two defenders on deadline day, according to The Sun.
We’ve been strongly linked with a move for Tierney throughout the summer window and the newspaper says Arsenal chiefs are locked in negotiations with Celtic trying to push through a £25m deal.
Our second offer reportedly met Celtic’s £25m asking price but the SPL champions weren’t happy with the structure of the deal due to the number of add-ons included in the proposal.
The two clubs are still trying to finalise a payment structure but it looks as though we’re hoping to finally get a deal wrapped-up before the window slams shut at 5pm on Thursday.
Tierney would be an excellent addition to the squad as he’d be a big upgrade on Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac at left-back and the 22-year-old has been one of the best full-backs in British football over the past couple of years.
Arsenal are also desperately trying to bring in a top class centre-back before the window closes after Laurent Koscielny joined Bordeaux on Tuesday and the L’Equipe claims we’re in advanced talks with sign David Luiz from Chelsea.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will be prepared to do business with a direct rival so Arsenal are keeping their options open and The Sun says we’re still interested in signing Umtiti from Barcelona.
The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp and only managed 14 appearances last season due to injury problems so the newspaper says Arsenal are looking to sign Umtiti on loan after failing with a move for Daniele Rugani.
We’ve been strongly linked with the Italian international in recent days but The Sun says we’ve failed to agree terms with Juventus over a two-year loan with an obligation to buy for £37m so are now eyeing Umtiti as an alternative.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming hours but it looks Emery is hoping to bring in Tierney as well as a centre-back on deadline day in what would be a crucial double swoop to reinforce our defensive options ahead of the new season.
