Kieran Gibbs Injury Update…
Arsenal have been handed a boost with the news that defender Kieran Gibbs is set to return to full training and may even be fit to face Bayern Munich next week.
Some good news on the injury front today Gooners with the Daily Mail reporting that defender Kieran Gibbs is set to return to full training and may even be fit to face Bayern Munich next week.
Gibbsy has been on the sidelines since picking up a thigh injury during the 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the Emirates at the end of January but it appears the defender is set to return to full training and has an outside chance of playing in the Champions League second leg against Munich next Wednesday.
If not, he should be in contention to face Swansea City on the 16th, but either way it’s good to have Gibbs back as I think we’ve missed him in recent weeks. He was arguably in the best form of his career when he picked up the injury and his attacking threat down the left has been sorely missed.
However, it will be interesting to see how Arsene Wenger lines-up now he has his two left-backs fit. Nacho Monreal has enjoyed a steady start to life at the Emirates since making his deadline day move so will Gibbs be able to force his way back in? Some fans have suggested moving Gibbs forward to play on the left wing ahead of Monreal and this could certainly be an option, particularly for tough away games.
But we’ll have to see what the boss decides. Monreal is ineligible to play in Europe so it would be great to have Gibbs back for the second leg, even if it’s practically a dead rubber, but the Swansea game may be the match Wenger has a decision to make over who’s his first choice left-back.
