Manchester City players European clubs will target this summer
In this post we look at some of the Manchester City players that other top clubs will look to sign this summer including Ilkay Gundogan.
Manchester City has some of the best players in European football at the moment, and the Citizens continue to improve their squad.
This season, they have already won the Premier League title after overhauling Arsenal and they are still battling to win the Champions League and FA Cup, so they could seal an historic treble.
Pep Guardiola has been accused of only working at teams with significant resources who can buy any footballer in the world.
This means the gaffer has top-quality players in his squad and in the summer, some of them will be targets for other clubs.
City is not a selling club, considering that they have some of the finest players on the planet on their books.
They also have more than enough money to keep everyone happy and have done that for the last few seasons.
If they dominate football and win several trophies at the end of this term, clubs will target some of their players.
The individuals might not want to leave, but it will not stop clubs from looking to add them to their squads. This includes top players who have made fans buy Manchester City tickets.
In this article, we look at some players who will be on the radar of top clubs when this season ends.
Some have been doing well on their books, while others haven’t had enough chances to play.
Kevin de Bruyne
De Bruyne is one of the best players in the world at the moment and remains a key player for Manchester City.
The midfielder is a king of providing assists, and for several seasons, he has been the standout performer at the Etihad, which makes the Belgian one man that has to remain at the City.
However, this season, he has often been benched by Guardiola and his team has done well without him.
In some games, he has been subbed off only for City’s performances to get better.
The club recently offered him a new contract, but it is clear to see that the star man’s time seems to be coming to an end under Pep.
The Belgian has been the king of assists in Europe for much of his time at City, providing an average of at least ten league assists per season.
He also chips in with important goals for the club, and this will make him an ideal player for many clubs.
At the end of the season, many suitors will try their best to add him to their squad, and it is something they can achieve depending on how Man City ends the campaign.
Bernardo Silva
Because of the star-studded nature of the current Man City team, Silva has struggled to get regular game time at the Etihad.
The Portugal international is one of the finest attackers in European football now and continues to make life easy for his teammates at City.
Several clubs have been linked with a move for him and he reportedly wants to play for Barcelona soon.
The Catalans are a club that plays a similar style of football as City does. After all, Pep was their manager and coached their current boss.
However, Barca will not be the only club interested in the former AS Monaco man who has been one of the finest attackers in the Premier League in the last few seasons.
Silva does not score many goals per season, and his best in the colours of City has been eight goals and four assists in the last campaign.
The Portuguese star does not seem interested in remaining at the Etihad and at the end of the campaign, he will get suitors who will take him on.
If Barcelona does not have the cash to buy him, Silva will have other suitors he can choose from.
Having won four Premier League titles and several other domestic trophies, Silva will want to join a club where he can win the Champions League.
This means he has many options and the only thing he might not want to do is to join another Premier League club.
However, as one of Guardiola’s trusted men, the Citizens might want to keep him and offer the Portugal star a new big-money contract.
Ilkay Gundogan
One of the most intelligent footballers in the City squad is Gundogan and he will be out of contract at the end of this season.
The German is not as physical as most footballers and it is quite easy to underestimate what he can do on the pitch.
But since he moved to City in 2016, he has continued to prove to be one of the finest players in their squad.
There are several heroic moments in his career, but none will probably compare to his goal-scoring performance on the final day of the last campaign when he came off the bench to win the league for Manchester City.
They seemed to be down and out against Aston Villa, which meant Liverpool would win the competition, but Gundogan proved his a key player and cemented his status as a club legend by scoring twice to down the tired Villans.
In the summer, several clubs will be on his case, even though City remains hopeful he will extend his contract with them.
However, Gundogan looks prepared for a new challenge and we expect him to be in the colours of a new club by the next season.
Maximo Perrone
Perrone was a surprised signing by Manchester City in the January transfer window and we expected the Citizens to send him out on loan immediately.
However, that never happened, and they maintained him in their current squad as the Citizens looked to help him stay and make a name for himself at the club.
The midfielder is just 20, and it is tough that his first experience in European football is at a top club like Pep Guardiola’s side.
But City is confident that he can start playing for them now, thanks partly to the success of Julian Alvarez, who has not struggled since he moved to England.
Perrone, however, might not find the life that easy at the Etihad and he might be sent out on loan to gain first-team experience.
This will encourage clubs to look to add him to their squad while they can and we expect City to be forced to make a decision on his future.
If they make him available for a loan transfer, there will be several clubs interested in signing him from around the world, including outside the top European leagues.
Julian Alvarez
Alvarez has had a meteoric rise in football after winning the World Cup with Argentina last year before he even became a regular at City.
Considering the competition from Erling Haaland, the Argentinian hasn’t played much football since he has been at the club.
Yet he has seven goals from 22 league games, most of which he has had to come from the bench to play.
Alvarez is still just 23 and has a very long and lucrative contract at Manchester City, but he might want more game time.
This will encourage some clubs to start looking to add him to their squad when the campaign ends.
As we said before, City is not a selling club and has the money to keep all their players happy at the Etihad.
But that will not stop suitors from targeting them, and we expect them to fight to keep some men in the group by the start of the 2023/2024 season.
