Premier League 2023/24: Current betting odds and title favourites
The 2022/23 Premier League campaign only recently finished but thoughts have already turned to next season. We look at the early title favourites.
The 2022/23 Premier League campaign only recently finished but thoughts have already turned to next season. Manchester City fought off a brave challenge from Arsenal to clinch the title, which was their fifth in the last six years, so can anybody stop Pep Guardiola’s men in 2023/24?
Favourites
Understandable, given their dominance over the past six years, Manchester City are the early favourites with the bookmakers to retain the Premier League title next season. Many betting sites such as Casino Konin have City priced as the leading contenders with best odds of around 8/15. City are expected to further strengthen their squad this summer and Erling Haaland will no longer be new to the league, so it’s going to take a huge effort to prevent Man City from winning yet another title next season.
The only hope for the chasing pack is City suffer a hangover following their sensational 2022/23 campaign that saw them win an historic treble. After overhauling Arsenal to win the Premier League, City went on to beat Man Utd in the FA Cup final before edging out Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final. Guardiola may find it harder to fully motivate his squad after achieving such success last season, which may open the door for their rivals.
Contenders
Liverpool endured a disappointing season last time out and missed out on the top four after finishing fifth. Jurgen Klopp is overhauling his midfield this summer as he tries to build a squad capable of competing with City again and they’ve already signed Alexis MacAllister from Brighton. However, Liverpool are going to need more reinforcements if they’re to win the title and they are currently priced as the 8/1 second favourites.
Arsenal went so close to winning a shock title last season. They led the league for almost 250 days and were on course to lifting the title for the first time since 2004. However, they collapsed in April to hand the initiative back to Man City who took full advantage to win the title again. Mikel Arteta is making ambitious moves in the transfer market this summer as he looks to add some world class players to his squad. If the Gunners can land targets such as Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, then they could be a good bet for the title at odds of 9/1.
Manchester United enjoyed a solid first season under new coach Erik ten Hag. They won the Carabao Cup, reached the final of the FA Cup and finished third in the Premier League. The Dutch coach is going to be busy in the market this summer continuing to rebuild his squad with a top class striker his priority. If Man Utd could sign a player such as Harry Kane, then fans may be tempted to back them for the title at odds of 10/1. If they are also bought out by the Qataries, then they may have the funds to really build a squad capable of competing for major trophies again.
Outsiders
Chelsea endured a nightmare 2022/23 campaign having finished 12th in the league, so they’ll be looking to make big improvements under new boss Mauricio Pochettino. The main aim will be to finish in the top four but Chelsea could still be outsiders for the title. They have a huge squad packed full of quality, and they’ll no doubt continue to invest this summer, so they may be dark horses at odds of 16/1 to win the Premier League.
Newcastle United were excellent under Eddie Howe last season and deservedly finished in the top four. They are solid defensively and have quality in midfield and attack. If Howe can build on his squad with a few top class signings this summer, then Newcastle will be a force to be reckoned with next year. Odds of 14/1 may look tempting to some bettors, especially if they can pull off ambitious moves to sign Neymar and Nicolo Barella this summer.
Tottenham are also big outsiders to win the title at 20/1 but it’s difficult to see anyone stopping Man City right now. The chasing pack will need to work hard just to challenge the European champions next season, but it’s poised to be another fascinating Premier League campaign in 2023/24.
