The Safest and Riskiest Bets on Football

Today, we’d like to take a look at both ends of the betting spectrum: the safest and riskiest bets you can place on football matches.

Betting, in general, is considered a pretty safe form of gambling – if you don’t get greedy, that is. Based on statistics, you can predict many outcomes with a certain precision. While there will always be room for the unexpected, you can be pretty confident at predicting some things. Then again, if you are a thrill seeker, there are plenty of betting options to choose from that come with high risk – and high reward.

Today, we’d like to take a look at both ends of the spectrum: the safest and riskiest bets you can place on football matches.

Match result – Safe

Who will win the match? You only have three variants to choose from for the match result bet: home win, away win, and draw. In the majority of cases, it’s either the home team or the away team that’s winning – a draw is less frequent. Keeping all this in mind, it’s easy to see why the match result (or 1X2) bet is among the safest.

Plus, it has two variants that make it even safer:

  • Double chance where you can bet on two of the three potential outcomes (1X, X2, or 12)
  • Draw no bet (DNB) where you can bet on either the home team or the away team to win and recover your stake in the case of a draw

Correct score – Risky

Predicting the winner of a match can be pretty easy. Predicting the exact score, not so much. There are simply too many variables, too many things that can change throughout the game. This makes “correct score” one of the riskier bets in football.

Sometimes, correct score bets are the subject of bookmaker offers and betting promotions in Vietnam and all over the world. It’s a high-risk bet with attractive odds that can make bettors take some extra risk.

Both teams to score (GG) – Safe (with caveats)

In football, you can bet on both teams scoring in a match (GG) which can be a safe bet – with caveats.

You need to take a good look at the teams’ attack and defence capabilities before going for this bet. You need to take a look at their form, any recent changes in their lineups, and the teams’ head-to-head record, and make an informed decision.

GG is often part of a combo bet that can also be pretty safe: GG or Over 2,5. In this case, you bet on both teams to score OR the total goals scored in the match to be over 2,5.

Neither team to score (NG) – Risky (again, with caveats)

The NG (No Goal) bet takes the X (draw) bet one step further. Here, basically, you bet on a no-score draw. Draws are relatively rare compared to one of the teams winning, and no-score draws are also pretty hard to predict.

NG can be a safe bet, though, if you do your homework. If you have two teams with a weak attack but a bulletproof defence facing each other, or when key attacking players from one or both teams are missing, it can be a good choice.

Anytime Goalscorer – Safe(ish)

Will Ronaldo score in their next match? How about Messi, Mbappé, or Haaland? Anytime Goalscorer can be a pretty safe bet in most cases. Of course, there are things to consider before you go with it.

First of all, you have to take into account the player’s form, any injuries, and any other factors that may influence their ability to score. Plus, you have to take a good look at their record, especially against the team they’re up against in the match you need to bet on. After all, any player can have blind spots or bad days.

First Goalscorer – Risky

Will Ronaldo be the first player to score in a match? How about Messi, Mbappé, or Haaland? Is there really a way to predict this? How many times did defenders or midfielders score the first goal in a match? How many times has a striker suffered an accident, sitting out the rest of the match?

While some may consider the First Goalscorer bet to be worth it, considering the high reward, in most cases, it is not.

When it comes to betting on football, there are both safe and risky options to choose from. But you have to keep in mind that no bet is without risk. It’s important to conduct thorough research, analyze team and player statistics, and consider all relevant factors before making any betting decisions. Responsible gambling and managing your expectations are essential to enjoy the excitement of football betting while minimizing potential risks.
