Man Utd owner INEOS ‘set sights’ on signing Buongiorno
Manchester United’s new minority shareholders, INEOS, have ‘set their sights’ on signing Torino star Alessandro Buongiorno, as per Football Transfers.
Having struggled with their defensive issues this term, the Red Devils seemingly want to prioritise bolstering their backline. Several names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford with Jarrad Branthwaite, Jean-Clair Todibo and Leny Yoro being among them, but Buongiorno is now emerging as a serious option.
According to the report by Football Transfers, INEOS – who are set to look after the football side of United – have identified Buongiorno as a serious option to reinforce United’s defence and they have ‘set their sights’ on purchasing him in January or next summer.
The report further claims that Torino are open to listening to offers for the Italian international and they could cash-in on him if they receive an offer of around £26m. So, Buongiorno could be an affordable signing for Man Utd if they purchase him.
Football Transfers also states that INEOS – who are the owners of OGC Nice as well – could opt to sign Buongiorno to strengthen the French side’s defence if they don’t decide to purchase him for the Red Devils.
Buongiorno to Man Utd
After coming through Torino’s youth system, Buongiorno has established himself as a key member of Ivan Juric’s starting eleven in recent times.
The defender has been enjoying a promising season in Serie A this term, scoring three goals and registering nine clean-sheets in 17 league appearances.
So, it appears having been impressed by the Italian international’s recent impressive performances, Man Utd have decided to register their interest in acquiring his service.
The 24-year-old, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is a left-footed centre-back. He is a versatile player as he can play as the left-back as well. The defender is strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is excellent in defensive contributions.
Buongiorno is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class defender in future. So, he could be an excellent acquisition for Man Utd to reinforce their backline if they sign him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the record Premier League champions eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure the Torino star’s signature this year.
