Chelsea ‘preparing’ bid to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold

Chelsea are reportedly ‘preparing’ a formal proposal to sign Real Madrid star Trent Alexander-Arnold, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After dismissing Enzo Maresca, the Blues have appointed Liam Rosenior as the new manager. The Italian used to play a back four system, but the Englishman mainly deployed a back three system at Strasbourg.

If the 41-year-old also takes a similar approach at Stamford Bridge, he would have to add depth to the backline. As a result, it appears the West London club are planning to sign a new right-sided defender despite already having Reece James and Malo Gusto.

Fichajes state that Rosenior is keen on reinforcing the RWB position at Chelsea by purchasing a new Premier League-proven attack-minded defender and believes Alexander-Arnold would be a perfect fit.

The Chelsea boss is willing to secure the Real Madrid star’s service on a loan deal in January with an option to make the move permanent next summer.

However, the Spanish giants consider the 27-year-old a key player and have no intention of letting him leave for a temporary deal. They will only let him leave for more than £35m with his existing deal set to run until 2031.

Chelsea are ready to fulfill their new manager’s wish and are ‘preparing’ to launch a formal multi-million-pound offer to persuade Los Blancos to cash-in on him.

Alexander-Arnold to Chelsea

The England international enjoyed great success at his boyhood club Liverpool, winning every possible major tournament, before leaving for free last summer. However, he has struggled with fitness problems at Real Madrid thus far this season.

He is a right-back by trait, but is also comfortable providing cover in midfield; moreover, he can play in the RWB position seamlessly. Alexander-Arnold has started only seven matches across all competitions thus far this season, registering a solitary assist.

He is currently at the prime stage of his career and would be a great coup for Chelsea should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Blues can eventually manage to lure him away from the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in January or next summer.
