In our new feature we assess who should play in each position Liverpool next season. In the first installment we’re going to be looking at who should play rightback.
For this post’s purposes, Liverpool are going to play a basic 4-4-2 formation.
Rightback
Option A: Martin Kelly
Out for the second half of the season, and was very much missed at rightback. A talented young fullback with bags of pace and decent crossing ability. What must be noticed about our young talent is that he is pretty good at defending as well. Good with a header and with a tackle. He absolutely showed this by keeping Johnson from the rightback spot in the first half of the season.
Option B: Glen Johnson
Perhaps the most naturally gifted rightback among Liverpool ranks and would certainly be the man for the job, had Liverpool not had their problems at the leftback position. Brilliant at going forward and delivering crosses into the box, with a brilliant shot as well.
Option C: John Flanagan
Our newest breakthrough from the academy. A really passionate player, this one, with him amazing with that odd crunching tackle here and there. Comfortable with the ball at his feet, as he displayed against Manchester City, the rightback could challenge for the rightback spot in the coming season.
Option D: Jamie Carragher
Our captain and Liverpool FC’s heartbeat. Brings extra security in defence when he plays at rightback and he allows for our players perhaps to play at a more advanced position. However, I eventually won’t pick him, simply because he is who I want for playing at centerback. The mean, tough-tackling central defender.
Option E: Potential Transfers
Only Zapata can be included in this list, because simply he’s the only one whom has been linked to Liverpool and can play as a rightback. A good defender, and he would provide some competition amongst the ranks at Anfield.
The Final Verdict: Glen Johnson
My choice for who should play at rightback is Glen Johnson, simply because had he not been in the leftback injury fiasco, he would have been playing as rightback week in, week out. Talented and fast, a worthy choice for someone playing at rightback come next season, being one of the best in the business.
So the current choice is as follows:
Liverpool FC (4-4-2) : Pepe Reina, Glen Johnson

me too! Johnson MUST play right wing, after all the question marks over his defending surely that is the natural progression. Also Kelly was our best player in the first half of the season so cannot be dropped:
—————Reina————-
Kelly–Carragher–Agger–Clichy/Cissokho
Johnson—Lucas—Gerrard—Downing/Mata
———-Suarez——-Carroll———

I agree with choice of Johnson at rightback because the form he showed under Kenny, he was truly world class, he was rarely caught out of position

Saying glenn johnson was rarely caught out of position is like saying katie price is rarely caught with her tits out.

I still can’t believe that Kuyt and Skrtel can be left out of peoples lineups when they are our most consistent players
