TRANSFER NEWS: Liverpool Move For £17m Copa America Star
Liverpool are lining up Porto’s Uruguayan left-back Alvaro Pereira, according to reports.
Red boss Kenny Dalglish is desperate to recruit a top quality full back this summer after Glen Johnson spent the majority of last season covering the left back position.
The Kop legend missed out on Manchester City’s Gael Clichy who opted for a move to Eastlands claiming he stood a better chance of winning trophies at the Manchester club.
Liverpool was also strongly linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique, but has yet to follow up his interest in the Spaniard.
Pereira, who can also play in midfield, was part of the recent Uruguay team that won the 2011 Copa America and would be available for around £17million, but with the Reds already spending over £40million this summer and it’s unlikely the clubs hierarchy will sanction such an expensive purchase for a relatively unknown 25-year old.
