Liverpool Transfer News: Left Back & Attacking Midfielder Linked

By on July 31, 2011

Liverpool Chasing Tranmere Youngster

It looks like Kenny Dalglish is looking for more domestic talent, as it is reported that Liverpool are contemplating offering a pre-contract for 22 year old left back Danny Holmes. TalkSport reports the interest in the leftback and has even made it in to the Welsh Premier League manager’s team of the season for consecutive years prior to his move back to England.

Liverpool want Lucas, yes, another one

Here’s another story and apparently Liverpool want to sign a Brazilian by the name of Lucas. No, not Lucas Leiva, but Lucas Rodrigues Moura da Silva. The 18 year old attacking midfielder has already made his mark for his club side Sao Paulo and has managed 4 international appearances for the Brazilian national team.

Liverpool are linked with nearly every player and there is no way that can actually be happening! However, fans do notice that many players we could do with (and would love to have) be they free or expensive, english or foreign, are lost to liverpool and go elsewhere. Either KK/Commolli are too slow or we have spent all available money on more attacking midfielders when we already have too many of them. We have done NOTHING about a LEFT BACK, CENTRE BACK, STRIKER or RIGHT WINGER when we have no suitable first team player in any of these positions!!! So far it has been underwhelming and disappointing!

      No strikers hmm?
      Andy Carroll
      Luis Suarez
      Drik Kuyt
      Dani Pacheco
      Joe Cole
      David N’Gog
      Milan Jovanovic

      Right, onto left backs
      Fabio Aurelio
      Jack Robinson
      Danny Wilson
      Emiliano Insua

      Centre Backs:
      Daniel Agger
      Martin Skrtel
      Jamie Carragher
      Sotirios Kyrgiakos

Right wingers we are missing, yes. But we have Stuart Downing and sometimes Dirk Kuyt who plays in that position.

Dont forget Glen Johnson can play right midfield. With Martin kelly Right back and Glen Johnson ahead of him would be as good as any premiership team on the right.

The point old timer is trying to make is:

1.Liverpool need a decent striker after Suarez, Carroll, and Kuyt can also play as striker but Ngog needs to be replaced because he has broken into first team plans for almost 3-4 years but has suggested nothing from his performances that he is good enough for Liverpool. I don’t rate Jovanovic at all, Cole is more of a left winger. I like Pacheco a lot but seems like no manager rates him at all because neither Rafa, Hodgson or Kenny has given him any chance.

2.On the leftback issue, Liverpool have Aurelio, Insua, Robinson (Wilson is a centre back). Aurelio no doubt is talented but needs to sold because he hardly plays any games, is always injured. Insua is good young leftback but don’t know if he can be a consistent performer in EPL,just yet. Robinson looks really good prospect but at years old its too much to ask for to play him regularly.

3.For right wing issue, Yeah Liverpool have Kuyt and Downing, but Kuyt hardly provides any width whereas Downing has been primarily bought for Left wing position. Maybe Glen Johnson can play at right wing but we haven’t seen him play at right wing, so we don’t know yet.

4.For centre back position, Carragher is too old and is past his prime, For Agger great defender probably our best but again gets injured more than he plays, Skrtel showed great endurance by playing in all games but he should be 3rd choice in pecking order as he isn’t that good, Kyrgiakos is monster in air but can provide nothing else, he is great for certain types of physical games but should be 4th or 5th choice center back.

      • karl

        July 31, 2011 at 8:43 pm

yes we have those players. but most of them struggle with injury and are not upto the standards required to do well in the premier league. for example Agger is injured alot so is Aurelio and carrol. pacheco, Ngog and jovanovic arnt upto the standard strikers need to be in the premiership.
so my question to you is where is the left wingers? where are the good left backs? huh?

I think that what he meant was we are lacking quality in these stated areas
we are four players short we have bought
        avaerage players.

well said couldnt put it better myself, feel as though KD and DC have missed the boat, here, the performances preseason so far have been dire, its other teams preseason as well, but they are coping well how can the so call “king kenny” even contemplate playing poulson, kyriakos, degen, insua and all the other utter sh.te, theres better players in the lower leagues, who are much better, to think the money these players get as well, shanks must be turning in his grave, as these players are not fit to lace his boots. SORT it out you TWO, The defence is a shambles it aint rocket science

      July 31, 2011 at 5:06 pm

I don’t think KK has any intention with these guys other than seeing who he wants to keep! I honestly believe he us confirming with the staff which players to keep and sell! Well at least I am hoping this is their strategy!

    • Steve

      July 31, 2011 at 7:15 pm

Who the hell do you think you are? The ‘ so called’ king kenny. You moron. If you want a busy transfer window with big name signings from foreign leagues, go support citeh. You’re no red. God, idiots like you give the rest of us a bad name. King kenny is buying players who are proven premiership footballers, not foreign gambles. Have you learnt nothing in the last few years with our business in the transfer windows?? I say again…MORON.

Appart from suarez, carroll and kuyt none of those other strikers you mentioned are any good, maybe with the exception of pacheco in the future.

As for the left backs aurelio is half decent but is always injured, robinson shows promise but should not be relied on at his age and wilson and insua are not at a first team standard.

Finally when it comes to centre backs carragher is getting older and might not have long left, agger is also plagued by injuries, skirtel is a decent centre back where as kyrgiakos is over rated and inconsistent!

Everyone always goes on about how we have too many CMs as well but when you look at them appart from the injured talent and the odd good game from the also over rated lucas who do we have? Mereles can play he odd good game but he gives the ball awy too easy- there is allot of work to be done in this low quality liverpool team!!!

          August 1, 2011 at 11:17 am

Wtf are you really that dumb, friendlies are obviously the time to be testing out players like insua- but he is no where near good enouh for the premier league let alone champions league which is whre we are aiming for next season!!!

And as for playing our best players in preseason, of course we need to because that is how you get your match fitness up for the start of the new season!! And im obviously not suggesting that we force the injured players llike gerrard to play, but if you are saying we shouldnt play any of our best players in preseason then are you sayin we should keep the likes of stuart downing on the bench lowering his match fitness just to make sure he doesnt get injured? I agree he shouldnt be playing constantly but the odd 45 minutes will make him fitter!

We definitely need a LB and a Striker, bcoz Ngog is not good,Pacheko is not to be given any chance by KK,Kuyt is 30+.I would love to have one CB also,as Carra is not in his best,Agger is class but fragile,Kelly and Wilson not tested in epl as CB.
I would love 2 have a RW also, but cant see that happening in this transfer window!

  6. Paul

    July 31, 2011 at 3:21 pm

The defence is a cause for concern. Without doubt we need a starting left back. Aurelio is fine for the squad – but is not reliable as is too often injured. Insua – well I would give him a season as cover to see if there is any chance he can become the player we hoped he would become.

The need for a CB is debatable. Yes, Soto is not good enough for regular 1st team and Cara won’t play 38 games a season any more. But – they are in the squad and so along with Skrtel and Agger are the four CBs. As cover we have Kelly, Wilson and the promising Ayala. I would have got rid of Soto – but he is staying – so end of story.

I cannot imagine a LFC side playing two out and out wingers. Unless we play with a target man. As we have Downing – who will play mostly on the left – we will have Kuyt/Maxi/Henderson on the right.

We may need another striker – but I would wait until the right one is available at the right price – which may not be this season. In any event another striker would simply replace Ngog as back-up and frankly, I doubt we will be playing two ‘classic’ strikers in any game. It will be more like 4-5-1 becoming 4-3-3 with three from Suarez/Downing/Caroll/Kuyt (hopefully with Pacheco getting cup run outs in place of Suarez)

Daglish is after attacking midfielder without considering defensive mfd, apart from garrager no one has confidence to play that wing among present player. And real problem particularlly is on left back shutter. If it may be lack of capital off load those that are not useful 2 thy club. Someone like Poulson, jovano, ngog even lukas. And out to local club and fesh them out if not progress to UEFA

  8. Kena

    July 31, 2011 at 4:50 pm

KD will use 3-6-1 formation for the new season. That’s is why he bought midfielders. 4 CM and 2 wingers.

if u fans can come up with ideas like this, do u think king kenny what with his vast experience in epl and a manager to boot cant realise all these??….cmon…dont embarass yourselves and just let the man do his job in peace…

Yeah, let KK do his job in peace. And if the pre-season form continues, by season’s end, he will rest in peace. Yeah, yeah… in KK we trust. Yeah… yeah… YNWA. What a load of crap. This is turning into a big YNWA… oops… I mean YAWN. Stevie, papa and company are the real MORONS!

The club needs to ship out the 11 dead wood players on clubs books asap: Then replace them with 6 players: Outs:

B Jones GK, Insua LB, Krgiakos CB, Aurelio LB, Degan RB, Poulsen DM/CM, J Cole AM/RW/LW, Jovanovic LW/RW/FD, M Rodriguez LW/RW/AM,El Zhar RW/LW and D Ngog FD.

INS: 1 AND 2: S Danns Of Birmingham and G Cahill Of Bolton: Two centre backs for combined amount of £28M, considering Luiz cost chelsea £24M and Lescott cost Man City £24M. The club could have two Young, quality, class english centre backs at the club for £28M.

3: A left back: J Enrique of Newcastle, Knows the premiership inside out and is a good reliable left back. £6-£10M

4: A Defensive Midfielder: Moussa Sissoko Of Toulouse Or M’Villa Of Rennes should be brought to club to compete with LUCAS, for defensive midfield role at club. £10-£15M

5: A Quick,Fast, Pacey Out and Out right winger: Jesus Navas Of Seville Should be brought to club, Electric/Lightning speed, skills, tricks, great delivery, holds width and keeps teams stretched. And his is world class, he should be brought to club asap. £20-£25M

6: Another Forward to compete with Carroll, Kuyt and Suarez, Lukas Podolski Of FC Koln/Cologne should be brought to the club. £7-£14M

11 players should be shown the door asap, the 6 players i mentioned should be brought to club. 4 players to strengthen side and make side harder to break down, 2 players to bring more pace, speed, quality and cutting edge to the attack at Liverpool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i like this comment, i dont agree with going for podolski though as i reckon we would be better of trying to sign young players ie the likes of sturridge or just simply have adam morgan and pacheco as cover as they desrve thier chance and have the potential to be very good players, also i reckon we should go for eden hazard if navas wasnt available for purchase. overall i personally think u are one of the more sensable liverpool fans though. ynwa

adam johson ,jesus navas, jose enrique and gonzalo higuain……….and please sell Cole, poulsen, maxi, jovanovic, ngog, jones ……….keep insua……lots of potential there……and use Robinson and Flanagan intermittently for the fullback positions….very promising youngsters…….and Raheem Sterling should be used as an impact sub………

Old timer, i am agree with you very first comment. Some player like Arda Turan & Park (Korean), really want to be joined the team. They Are good & quality players that I really don’t know why Comolli & kenny don’t even take a look at all. THe talent like pacheco also left out by them. Insua is not too bad at all. Those players i mentioned really i think better that Downing & Andy Carroll. What a waste of money.

  15. darren

    August 6, 2011 at 8:13 pm

i personally think a lot of u dont have a clue about football, first of all liverpool need to get rid of the following players:jones, hansen, wilson, kyrgiakos, ayala, mendy, darby, insua, aurelio, degen, poulsen, aqualini, cole, maxi,el zhar, spearing, ngog, although some of those players are still good players they arent good enough for a title winning team if thats what we wish to be and we should bring in players like the following: dann, perriera, sissoko, hazard, sturridge, as im sure u would agree those group of players added to the ones we have now are capable of winning things as i think this team would be balanced in all areas and big enough to cope with injurys still

    • darren

      August 6, 2011 at 8:15 pm

also with the likes of our youngsters coming up and our new signings in downing adam suarez carrol henderson etc we would have a very strong team !! ynwa !!
