Wenger Quiet Despite Rumours Of Defender Bid
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refuses to be drawn on individual names after the Gunners were linked with a bid for a premiership defender over the weekend.
Reports recently have suggested Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made an offer for a Premiership defender.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with Everton’s Phil Jagielka, as well as Blackburn’s Christopher Samba and Bolton’s Gary Cahill. Jagielka has already been subject to a £10million bid from Arsenal this summer which was immediately rejected by the Toffees.
Congo powerhouse Christopher Samba was subject to an approach from the Gunners back in January, but the deal collapsed at the last minute with the Rovers desperate to keep hold of the defender in their relegation battle run-in.
Wenger is a huge admirer of Gary Cahill but the Trotters have priced out Arsenal after the club slapped a £20million price tag to the defender. Wenger remained tightlipped over the fresh speculation. The Frenchman said:
“We try to strengthen the squad, we worked very hard on it, but I have no name today.”
