Arsenal Legend Blasts Cesc Fabregas

By on August 12, 2011

Stewart Robson has slammed Cesc Fabregas and claims his imminent departure will not affect the clubs leadership.

The former Gunners ace played over 150 games for the North London side in the 80’s and claims the former Barcelona trainee isn’t leader.

“You can’t call [Cesc Fabregas] a leader.

“Cesc Fabregas won’t be a loss as a leader because the feeling I get is that he’d lost interest in the club for a whole year.”Stewart Robson told TalkSport.

“Thierry Henry wasn’t a leader. He was, in my view, a poor captain. When things were going wrong for Arsenal he never stepped up.

“And when things were going wrong for Arsenal, Cesc Fabregas didn’t always step up either. There was that game at Newcastle last year where Cesc Fabregas was brilliant in the first-half and you didn’t see him in the second-half.

“That’s where Cesc Fabregas won’t be a loss as a leader because the feeling I get is that he’d lost interest in the club for a whole year and he wasn’t a good influence on some of the other players.”

No need to be a legend to speak what’s been obvious for years.

Graham he’s a legend now for pointing out what a total waste of space Fabregas is. Never was a captain.
When you look back at the great Captains Arsenal have had then Fabregas was an utter disgrace!
Be glad to see him cry off back to Spain. £35 million bench warmer!!

WengersGuideDog, sounds like you need a guide dog of your own. The last two seasons we should have won the league but in each case our so called captain and supposedly best player went missing when he was needed most. All well and good shining while the team are walking games, but where was the useless waste of space whn he was really needed.
He’s a choker and that scum in Barca are welcome to him

I watched the replay of the 4-4 draw away to Newcastle and the 3-3 draw away to Spuds. For all that Fabregas could contribute in creativity he severely costs the team in his defensive game because of the lack of physical presence in the midfield and lack of genuine pace . I think if he goes we would lose his creativity but if he is replaced with Juan Mata or Hamsik I dont think it would be that bad but the important thing is bringing in someone who offers more in their defensive game in the midfield trio because we were completely dominated in midfield in the two games above especially in the second half and part of the reason is Fabregas.
Has anyone taken a look at him when defending set pieces , he is really a liability in that area , I am going to look at more games to highlight his weaknesses which are critical in those physical games .

Bravo Tina, well said! He’s great when his heart was still with the club… nevertheless, not captain material.

when did he become a defensive midfielder? i cant believe yor knocking his denfensive ability, when Song, our actual DM, looks like a lost little boy.

Can you not just put yourself in cescs shoes for one minute and think how demoralising it must be to help put your team in the lead and near the top of the table, onlt to see your inferior team mates mess it all up AND STILL PLAY WEEK AFTER WEEK, SEASON AFTER SEASON!!

next you’ll be telling me it cescs fault that Almunia couldnt catch a cold, let alone a ball!!

Graham Walby I guess you never saw Stewaart Robson go in goal when our keeper (Jimmy Rimmer I think) was sent off, and he kept Peter Withe and Brian Little out for 45 minutes!!

    HERO that day!!!

Let him go and take the money to buy 2 powerful centre back to sort out the problem in set piece… sell off Nasri to buy one powerful centre forward who will shoot when there is a chance.. not like Chamakh who keeps on passing and passing….keeps running like a fool dog!!

Sorry Football Talk but no way was / is Stewart Robson an Arsenal Legend. Great player but a very promising career was curtailed by injury. However his comments are valid – TH and Cesc were and are immense players but Cesc and to a lesser extent TH are NOT leaders. Arsenal need a leader in the Tony Adams, or Patrick Viera mould someone who can put in a crunching tackle and stand up for his team and also hand out a bollocking on the pitch when needed. Not go to the ref and wave imaginary cards like Cesc does !!

I think many of you seem to be forgetting all the times Fabregas carried Arsenal though games almost single-handedly. Coming on as a sub turning the game before going off again injured. Let’s face it not every captain has to be in the TA mould.

I will miss him and whilst it is a shame he has always conducted himself with dignity.

He wanted to go all along. Why was he in spain when the team was still playing their final games last season…. holiday? As usual, I dont always believe he’s really injured as purported to be.. Anyway, that’s the past.
