Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Shock Striker Move Lined Up | Defenders Linked

By on August 24, 2011

It’s the start of a new era for Liverpool. New signings, brand new optimism, and potentially Bellamy…. oh wait, when did that happen?

Apparently Craig Bellamy might be set for a shock return to Anfield. The Daily Mail and The Guardian have both run the same story claiming that Bellamy is set for a homecoming to Liverpool.

According to The Guardian,

“Bellamy’s wage has surprisingly not deterred several Premier League clubs and Celtic from trying to prise the 32-year-old from the Etihad Stadium but Liverpool are willing to offer the striker a lucrative contract providing no transfer fee is involved.”

Doesn’t make sense to me. Liverpool apparently are set/negotiating to sell Dirk Kuyt to Inter Milan, and I don’t think that Bellamy will cut it at Anfield in his second spell.

And if you guys haven’t heard, our Greek centerback Sotirios Kyrgiakos has moved to the Bundesliga with German outfit Wolfsburg on what seems to be a free transfer, that is, if sources are to be believed.

And there are various different theories as to who might come in as replacement/a first choice centerback. A few mention Gary Cahill (this one especially popular amongst fans on Twitter), some talk about Birmingham City defender Scott Dann and some even mention the possibility of Sebastian Coates signing for the Reds to the extent that he already has a done deal.

The 6ft 6 inch Coates impressed during Uruguay’s victorious Copa America campaign and has been monitored by Manchester City prior to their capture of Stefan Savic. Currently with Nacional, Coates was due to switch to Brazilian side Sao Paulo, only for the Uruguayan side to pull out of the deal when his profile, and price, increased.

The Telegraph

And lastly, Mick McCarthy, Wolverhapton manager has declared that Liverpool target Kevin Doyle is firmly NOT for sale in this summer transfer window.

Well, so that’s it for today, come back tomorrow for more!

Why have you even published this story???? Buying Bellamy AGAIN goes against the new ethos at Anfield. Especially as he is not known for his good temprament. We HAVE sold Soto, thats YESTERDAY’s news. We’re NOT selling Dirk, thats LAST YEAR’s news (ESPN missed it last year so thought they’d run it this year) and the most likely candidate to come in for the defence is the one you suggest is least likely. I’d go back to bed mate and catch up on your sleep, you obviously need it with this lazy article.

You’ve just written exactly what I was going to say too. Can’t believe this writer doesn’t even follow the news.

Logic would suggest that the Coates deal was already 90% done before they let Soto go to Germany. Only Newcastle seem to sell players without having replacement signings ready.
I think the Bellamy story is more likely to be planted by his agent trying to get him a lucrative deal. It’ll be Sunderland or Newcastle he’s linked to next.

Again “backofthenet”, with his rather pointless article. What is he? 22 years old and a graduate who appears to have no journalism skills. Back to Uni you go, “backofthenet” with your poor article.

I doubt we have any interest in Bellamy as he is too old and we are building for the future. I also doubt we have any intention of selling Kuyt as he does not want to go and he is one of our top players and goal scorers at the moment. I am also sure that we are not going to buy Cisse or Anelka or Drogba as they are all too old! We have better options that older players on free transfers and we have enough strikers and mid fielders for half a dozen teams. We are linked to two South American stars and we are close to those deals. So to the press: stop printing rubbish! Leave our regulars alone!
