Arsenal have further troubles to deal with as Arsene Wenger confirmed that their talented young midfielder, Jack Wilshere, will be missing for at least two to three weeks.
The England international has not played a game for Arsenal this Premier League season after picking up an ankle injury against the MLS side New York Red Bulls late in July during Arsenal’s pre season schedule.
There had been hopes that the 19 year-old would recover quickly and in time for Arsenal’s Champions League qualifying second leg game against Udinese tonight. However, after training for a few days, Wilshere has had another setback, with Wenger fearing the players rehabilitation will have to start all over again. Arsene Wenger said:
“I don’t know if we are back to square one or for how long he will be out. He’s in a [protective] boot again, so that means he will at least be out for two or three weeks.”
This news means that not only will Wilshere miss Arsenal’s mid week European qualifier, but also the weekends game against Manchester United. Wenger is already likely to be without Samir Nasri for the United game on Sunday, having travelled to Manchester uesterday to complete his medical in order to join Manchester City, but injury news further weakens the Arsenal squad.
Arsene Wenger has had some good news for Arsenal fans however, stating that he is seeking to improve the midfield positions since Fabregas’ and Nasri’s departures:
“We are short in midfield at the moment and that is where we want to strengthen.”
