James Milner named “PFA Young Player of the Year”
By Ross Mackiewicz.
James Milner has capped off a scintillating year for both club and country after being named the “PFA Young Player of the Year” for 2010. Aston Villa’s midfield dynamo has been a revelation this season helping his club to a League Cup Final as well as contributing towards a solid push for a top four spot. Milner’s form is largely thanks to his manager Martin O’Neill who converted the England star from a consistent wing wizard to an efficient tireless engine in the heart of Aston Villa’s midfield back in December.
Milner beat off competition from the likes of Joe Hart, Cesc Fabregas and eventual “PFA Player of the Year” and England team mate Wayne Rooney. It’s another sign of progression for his club Aston Villa who also saw Ashley Young pick up the award twelve months prior.
Milner started his career at his home town club Leeds United before a big money move to Newcastle United in 2004 after Leeds were relegated to the Championship. A loan move to his future club Villa materialised in 2005 before he became the clubs record signing in 2008 for just over £12 million.
