REPORTS: Sagna Out For 3 Months After Breaking Fibula
If losing 2-1 to your rivals isn’t bad enough, Arsenal fans have more bad news to deal with. The French television channel, Canal + claim that key defender Bacary Sagna has suffered a broken fibula after a challenge with Tottenham’s Benoit Assou Ekotto.
The incident happened mid-way through the second half and it appears Sagna turned his ankle as he landed and signalled immediately that he needed to be replaced. Arsene Wenger said straight after the game he was awaiting more news on the extent of the injury:
We are very worried about his injury. He is in hospital at the moment and it is too early to say but the first signs do not look good at all. It is the fibula in the ankle that has to be checked, that is what I have been told. We will know tonight.
However, Canal + claim that Sagna has in fact broken his fibula which will rule him out for at least 3 months. Of course this news is yet to be confirmed by Arsenal, but Canal + are a well respected French media outlet and it seems this is another bitter blow to Arsenal’s season.
***UPDATE*** L’Equipe are also now reporting that Sagna has suffered a broken fibula and has been withdrawn from the French squad.
