Wenger Insists He Won’t Rush Starlet
Arsene Wenger admits he will not overplay promising midfielder Aaron Ramsey after conceding he do so with Jack Wilshere.
Wilshere has endured an injury-plagued start to the campaign and is not expected to return before December and Wenger says he will avoid doing the same with Wales skipper Ramsey.
The Frenchman was delighted with Ramsey’s late minute winner against Marseille but is mindful that the Welshman only recently returned from a serious leg break and doesn’t want to overuse him.
“It was a great finish, you see Ramsey in front of goal and you know you have a good chance to score. He is a goalscorer,” Wenger told the club’s official website.
“I do not want to overplay him. I have seen in my mind that he had been injured for a year. Wilshere played a lot last year [and is now injured].
“I try to be a bit more cautious when I can.”
Wenger hopes the club can build momentum following their victory in the Stade Velodrome.
“It will help us but if you look back last five or six games you will see we only have one defeat,” Wenger continued. “We are slowly getting there – that will help tonight.
“We’ve made a little step forward but we have to be humble. We are a team who must continue to grow and we have to show that. The next game at home against Marseille is very important.”
