Liverpool have been boosted by the news that star striker Fernando Torres is happy at the club and has no intention of jumping ship following a disastrous season for the Merseysiders. After a seventh place premier league finish there has been wide-spread speculation that the Spanish hit-man was unsettled at Anfield with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea all linked with big-money moves.
Premier league champions Chelsea have been tipped to make a £70m bid for Torres this summer as owner Roman Abroamovich opens the purse strings in a bid to secure the champions league next season.
However, Torres’s agent Jose Antonio peton told Punto Radio in Spain that his client ‘will continue with the club next season’ and is ‘happy’ at Anfield.
“For the moment I can assure fans that Fernando will continue at Liverpool next season.”Everything is down to Liverpool’s attitude but for the time being Fernando is happy at the club and has a good contract.
“Liverpool have not spoken to us about his future, so he is just concentrating on playing at the World Cup”
Although Penton says Torres is happy with Liverpool, he uses the phrases ‘for the moment’ and ‘for the time being’ which in agent talk normally means he’s telling club officials to sort things out or his client will be off. I can see Torres still being at Anfield at the start of next season unless Liverpool receive a crazy offer, most likely from City or Real, in which case the owners may decide to cash in. Which would not go down well with the Anfield faithful who already can’t wait to see the back of their American owners.
