United Lead Race For £20m Spaniard

David Silva

By Football Talk.

Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with Real Madrid in the race to sign Valencia midfielder David Silva. Real have been widely expected to complete a £20m deal for Silva during the summer but now United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to swoop in and sign the player from under the noses of the Spanish giants.

The 24-year-old is ready to follow David Villa and quit Valencia after his fellow Spanish international left for Barcelona last week. Silva has been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona in recent months, but it seems that Real and United are the front-runners for his signature.

Reports in Spain last week suggested Madrid had already contacted Valencia officials about Silva’s availablility and were close to secureing a deal, but now Fergie is set to make an approach and tempt the tricky winger to Old Trafford. Although Ferguson is a huge admirer of Silva, he will not pay over the odds in an over-inflated transfer market as he looks to add one special player to his squad.

Would United fans like to see Silva at OT next season? Please leave your opinions below…

utd desperately needs some flair and creativity in the midfield. silva and van der vaart can bring us that. plus luis suarez to partner our main man, rooney. we need these 3 players more than anything else.

hmmmmmm….i agree with avinash too……but 3 signings….hmm…i dont think so……….silva might not come to utd cos now nani is performing well and there is tosic who impressed with cologne(koln)……but i think man utd must go for gourcuff or arterta…..gourcuff is young and can be a hit…..while arterta is 28 but has proven in the prem league…..and berba also will b ther…..if they sign suarez man its gonna be really tough putting in all the players…they mite even change the formation…….

    Totally agree with Avinash.
Suarez and Silva would be two great signings for United.
C’mon u, Red Devils, lets get that trophy back.

Too good to be true, these players cant settle in the uk.Its all down to the climate and culture.

Yeah, like Torres, Mascherano an Tevez you mean? C’mon now.

But I too think they will never come to OT. But not because of the climate. Because Utd aren’t a top side anymore. They’ll probably go to Chelsea or some of our rivals because they at least show some ambition. Buy 1 player? SAF is demented….

We need David Bentley on the wing and James Beattie to be target man for Wayne. They are both cheap and British.

i really dont undrstand wat silva wuld do in real…….it wuld just maybe add to their fan base…othrwise silva’s career just like many others in madrid will be in downslide..example karim…for manu he wuld be a perfect signing as he promises to give the creativity and also can be used as a forward…..

We have been talking about all these good players which can help us take back the title from Chelsea. However, if Sir Alex still do not take any action, all these good players will be gone in no time and we will again be left with fringe players and another trophless year

This one really made me laugh, im a spurs fan and although bentley has some ability to say that him and Beattie would improve a stale Man Utd is a joke, I cant believe Fergie said he only needs 1 player, thats amazing you definately need a new attacking central midfielder and striker.
Nani and Valencia are great on the wings but when rooney doesnt play you struggle, and carrick and anderson arent good enough midfielders, I would say Van Der Vaart and Suarez sound good

Go get David Silva for a creative midfield and Suarez to partner Rooney. By the way, where is Beattie now???

Sir Alex talks about an over inflated transfer market but it has been here for a while and will continue to be here and as long as it is, United will have to compete or face the consequences and those could be a failure to win trophies or league titles!
Top players cost top money and United will have to find a hefty amount to bring the squad up to the level of clubs such as Barca, Real and so on.
Sir Alex will have to get out the cheque book soon or the best players will have gone … and so will United ‘s chances of winning anything!

I stand by what I said. Bentely can be our new Cantona – he is cheap and has bags of Flair. We are crying out for a player to hold the ball up – Beattie or Kevin Davies are the best around and cheap. Berba cannot hold a cup of tea.

Jesus christ. I would rather poke out my eyeballs with a toothbrush and then pour lemon juice into my eye-sockets, than see James Beattie or David Bentley in a United shirt.

I totally agree with John. It’s not the problem with over-inflated market. First, we don’t have cash to spend thus Fergie keeps blaming the market. What do you expect when you sell CR7 for 80M? Fergie actually responsible for the inflated market. Second, I think we have problem with the people who doing the negotiation for us. How come we have to pay odd money for players like Berbaflop, Carrick, Tosic, Mame Biram, Anderson, Nani, Smalling and now Hernandez? Some of these players are not proven yet. Third, we tend to buy unknown players who were not even in the “soon-to-be superstar” category with lack of creativity, individual skills and most importantly hard-working player. There many skillful players out there.

i dont no wether fergie is talking shite about singing 1 player because if hes series then he needs a boot up his hole..if i can see that the team isnt good enough them im bloody sure he can..carrick and berbabeard need to go they offer fuck all,if we can get silva and benzema in then i think we would be doin well,as silva will score more goals than the whole of the midfield did last year, and benzema would do more than berbabeard did even if he wasnt playin, fergie stop buying a load of shite(diouf, obertan and add gibson to that even though we didnt buy him)this is manchester united not fucking margate town get the money out and stop betraying the fans with all your mumbo jumbo..we deserve better than this

You united boys make me laugh!!! you are in sooooo much debt you will not be spending 20million on silva i can guarantee you that now, just because liverpools finances are all over the papers you think they are in trouble but when really you lot are!! liverpool are looking for new investors while the yanks are still killing united with a huge huge debt even after the sale of ronaldo. so yeah be looking more for the players of beattie haha oh and a mid table finish next year while liverpool will flurish with new investors and torres and gerrard going knowhere : ) c.mon the scouse!!!!!!!!!

Fergie is past it now, no major signings in the summer he reckons. Time for a change I think. He should retire and we should bring Sam Alladyce is to take over. He is british and knows Fergies philosophy.

I hope that when manutd sign silva we will get back the trother and we really need to sign him. ITS A MUST
He is a good player that is why many clubs want his signinature.

What concerns me is that united are not serious for it has been long we have been hearing that SILVA to UTD but up to now no deal has been made. So i doubt if Fegie is really serious about getting back the trouther for silva would have contributed alot.

Any we will wait and see but we really need his services PLUS angel Di Maria

On the contrary i disagree with that berber should sold.

We need silva and karim badly..if not we shall be the nex liverpool in comin seasons…

    May 26, 2010 at 6:51 pm

I think we need an attacing midfielder and a striker. I hope the rumors are not true that Berbatov is staying. I don’t know why we signed him. Silva would fit in nicely he can replace Giggs, and create goals out of nothing (which we need). Suarez or Aguero for me though up front. Both are promising. I don’t see Van Der Vart giving us anything extra.

Were is Liverpool in all of this with Hicks’s “substantial” transfer fond?
It’s clear that Rafa alwayes wanted this player he just never had the founds go for him.

Anyway, this David is heading to Real, and they have players to offer in exchange, Valnecia will be needing them.
Valnecia are good at developing players I must say, Mata or Silva would never made a name for themselfs in Real.

definitely none of the above rumours…man utd is seriously stingy…they will buy at least one star player and the rest are the potential younger players…but it’s good to see players like david silva, angel di maria, luis suarez, marek hamsik, gareth bale and manuel neuer in man utd..
but i would said dat if any players including manager enter the bernebau, their career will end buy just sitting on the bench..really hope dat man utd will spent on these players for the glory and get rid of carrick and berba..
