Chelsea Buying Another Striker? Anything To Take Luiz Off The Spot
You know you need a new striker when your centre-back starts taking penalties. Well, unless that defender is Julian Dicks of course. But sadly for Chelsea, David Luiz is no Dicks, but he sports wonderful locks the former West Ham hard-man could only dream of.
Those locks count for nothing though when you can’t put the ball in the net from 12 yards, and the Brazilian’s miss cost the Blues two points in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Genk in the Champions League.
Just hours after that point in Belgium, the Stamford Bridge outfit were linked to Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski. Coincidence? I think not! Well actually, it probably has nothing to do with Luiz, but more to do with Villas Boas’ misfiring strike-force.
After all, Didier Drogba hasn’t had a good season so far at all, Nicolas Anelka has only scored once, and Fernando Torres continues to divide opinion. As for Romelu Lukaku, he’s barely out of nappies.
The only two players impressing in the Blues’ final third are Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge, but they have found their niches just off the front-man, not up there predominantly by themselves.
So perhaps Lewandowski is the answer? After all, he’s had a great start to the campaign in Germany with seven goals in 11 games, and at only 23, he has time on his side unlike Drogba and Anelka.
Although there is one other thing. Is he any good at penalties?
