Jordan Tells Barcelona – Tottenham Will Keep Hold Of Gareth Bale
Tottenham coach Joe Jordan has told Barcelona to forget trying to sign Gareth Bale, amid reports they are lining up a £35m bid.
Tottenham coach Joe Jordan has told Barcelona to forget trying to sign Gareth Bale, and is confident the club can stave off interest like they did with Luka Modric.
Jordan’s comments come amid reports the Spaniards are lining up a move for the Welsh winger, with a bid of £35m being suggested. However, the Tottenham coach feels the club will be able to hang on to Bale and pointed to the case of Luka Modric as an example of how they wont be pushed around in the transfer market.
Modric was subject to intense interest from Chelsea in the summer, with the West Londoners bidding £40m on deadline day. But Spurs held firm and refused to sell, and Jordan believes they can do the same with Bale if Barcelona come calling.
“The stance with Modric was that we would not be forced into selling him and that was proved,” he said.
“I believe we can keep Bale. It’s great when the best team in the world is talking about one of our players. I don’t see why it would cause us a problem.
“To mention figures? I wouldn’t start mentioning figures. Everyone’s got a valuation, but it’s important that your players are spoken about.
“We’ve shown that we can retain players and bring players in, both of which are important.”
