Arsenal
Another Twist In Joe Cole Chase
By Football Talk.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has declared his interest in signing Joe Cole, preparing to do battle with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City for his services. Cole is one of this summers hot-properties as he is set to walk out on Chelsea after failing to agree a new contract, alerting the premiership big-boys to a possible bargain free-transfer swoop.
Only last week Redknapp claimed Spurs had missed-out as felt Cole had already agreed a move elsewhere, but now the Tottenham manager has thrown his hat in the ring once more after publicly declaring his interest to bring Cole to White Hart Lane. Redkanpp told the Daily Express:
“Yes, I am prepared to declare my interest in Joe Cole.
“Why not? He is a great player, his contract is up and he is on a free transfer. When he returns, I would love to talk to him about coming to Spurs.”
Manchester United were the early front-runners for Cole’s signature with some claiming the deal would be completed before the World Cup. However, a deal never materialised and reports last week suggested Cole was set for a move to the Emirates, as the London-born play-maker was reluctant to up-root his family. With Redknapp ruling Spurs out of the race and Chelsea withdrawing their contract offer, it seemed Arsenal was the obvious choice. But now it seems likely that Cole will make his decision after the World Cup, and Redknapp has put Tottenham right back in the frame.
