REPORTS: Tottenham Start Negotiations Over £20m Carlos Tevez Deal

Tottenham are lining up a sensational move to sign Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez, according to reports today.
It’s believed that Harry Redknapp has identified the Argentinean striker as the man to turn Spurs into genuine title contenders and The Sun reports today that the Londoners have already approached City about a possible £20m deal.
As usual, The Sun have a ‘source’ who disclosed the following insights in to the deal:
“People at Tottenham reckon a deal like this could be bigger than anything since they signed Jurgen Klinsmann.
“There’s definite interest. The big stumbling block could be whether or not City are prepared to do business with a team now regarded as one of their rivals for the title.”
“There are some who reckon Tevez signing would pretty much guarantee Champions League football and that it would be worth the investment.”
Despite the relatively suspect source, this piece of transfer gossip could have foundation. Harry Redknapp has previously admitted he’s a huge fan of Tevez and claimed he’d love to bring him to White Hart Lane, so there is no reason that Spurs wouldn’t make enquiries to try and thrash out a deal.
Of course, whether or not they can come to an agreement is another story altogether. Tevez is on nearly £200,000 a week at City and Tottenham wouldn’t be able to offer anywhere near that figure so they would need to persuade the player to take a pay cut or come up with sort sort of bonus structure to make up the shortfall. Plus it’s thought City would prefer to sell to a European side rather than a Premiership rival.
AC Milan and PSG are in discussions but neither have been able to tick all the boxes, which could leave the door open for Daniel Levy to do his thing. Levy is known as one of the best negotiators in the business and if anyone can pull this deal off, it’s him. Watch this space.
