Go Get Modric or Iniesta! – United Legend Tells Fergie
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has suggested Sir Alex Ferguson should try and sign a creative midfielder in the mold of Luka Modric or Andres Iniesta.
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has suggested Sir Alex Ferguson should try and sign a creative midfielder this January, and named Luka Modric and Andres Iniesta as potential targets.
Ince feels that United lack creativity in midfield following the retirement of Paul Scholes and thinks Fergie should be looking to fill the void in January, after missing out on several targets in the summer.
United were linked with mega-money moves for Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder in August, but a deal for either failed to materialise and the players remained at Tottenham and Inter Milan respectively.
With Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley and Anderson all ruled out with serious injury, Ince believes now is the time for Ferguson to replace Scholes and named Modric and Iniesta as the kind of player Fergie should be looking at.
“I feel they need that creativity in midfield, losing Paul Scholes was a big loss obviously,” Ince told BBC Radio Five Live.
“You’re not going to get players like Roy Keane or Bryan Robson, those players aren’t around anymore.
“The game has changed since then and you don’t get those type of characters, so he [Sir Alex] has got to look at another way of controlling the midfield and I think that can come from creativity in someone like Luka Modric or Andres Iniesta, they are the players I would be looking at.
“I’m sure Sir Alex will take stock and he’ll be looking at what type of player he will need in January and it won’t just be in midfield, I’m sure he’s looking at a centre-half with Vidic being out.
“But I’m sure he knows what to do, there’s no point me telling him what to do because he’s the greatest manager I’ve ever played under.”
High-flying Tottenham have already ruled out selling Luka Modric in January and it’s highly unlikely European Champions Barcelona would consider selling Iniesta, so it seems Ferguson will have to come up with his own players to target next month.
