Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed midfielder Jack Wilshere should return to first team action in mid-Ferbruary, just in time for Arsenal to play bitter rivals Tottenham.
The England ace has been sidelined for the entire season with an ankle injury, that he aggravated during the clubs pre-season fixture against the New York Red Bulls.
Wenger gave an update on his recovery today and claimed the latest scan results were very positive:
“He had a very important scan on Thursday and that was very, very good, exceptionally good. The news we have for Jack is very positive. No [he will not be back sooner], we will respect the delays. I count maybe mid-February for Jack.” Wenger said.
Wilshere is on track for a return in the middle of February, just in time to play in the North London derby with Tottenham at the Emirates on the 26th February. The Gunners also have the first leg of their Champions League tie against AC Milan on the 15th which Wilshere may also take some part in if he continues to recover on schedule.
Wenger also had positive news on Kieran Gibbs, who should return to the side within a week:
“He is I think one week maximum away. He could be present at Aston Villa or the game after [against Wolves. Of course, you want him back and to play.” Wenger said.
