Arsenal
Loan Watch: Wellington Scores On Debut | Frimpong K.O’d | Vela Booed
Arsenal have several players out on loan with clubs all over the world. Here’s a summary of each player and how they got on during the last week for their club
Samuel Galindo did not feature in Gimnastic de Tarragona’s 1-0 win over Elche and neither did Sead Hajrovic after his move to Barnet, Chuks Aneke at Stevenage and Sanchez Watt for Sheffield Wednesday. The former has extended his loan for the rest of the season after impressing in his short spell there but Watt’s manager Gary Megson has said he won’t extend his loan as he’s not up to the physical demands of League One football.
Nicklas Bendtner went off injured after ten minutes of Sunderland’s victory over Swansea; he was on the wrong end of an Angel Rangel boot to the face. Joel Campbell’s Lorient didn’t play and Daniel Boateng has been loaned to League Two title contenders Swindon Town.
Emmanuel Frimpong:
The ‘denchest’ player in the Premier League started for Wolves as they played the Midlands version of El Clasico; Aston Villa, of course, were the visitors. The Ghanaian played well for the time he was on the pitch, not only breaking up Villa moves bust also providing a good driving force going forward. However, with the score at 2-2 he took a Petrov boot to the face and was stretchered off after a long delay (watch a video of the incident here). His face is swollen but he should be ok – he was in decent spirits on Twitter despite Robbie Keane winning the game for Villa in the final ten minutes.
Wellington Silva:
Silva came off the bench to appear for his new side CD Alcoyano. He was brought on just after his side went 2-1 down to Almeria and helped them pull back to 2-2 with an inspired performance. The winger was lively and drew fouls from his opponents as they found themselves having to double up on him – he still beat them and drew fouls. Eventually he scored the equaliser, tapping in at the far post to earn his side a point.
Carlos Vela:
The Mexican started for Real Sociedad who were booed off as they lost 4-0 at home to Athletico Madrid, who had not won away from home. He was just part of an extremely disappointing performance by Sociedad and grew frustrated with his team mates as they failed to give him much service as the whole team underperformed – Vela himself wasn’t particularly poor but spent an awful lot of time complaining about the referee’s various decisions after he refused Sociedad a penalty for what was clearly not a penalty anyway. The star of the show was undoubtedly Falcao, who scored a hattrick as his side cruised to victory including an audacious chip from range.
Denilson:
The midfielder started for Sao Paulo as they kicked off their new league season by demolishing Botafogo 4-0. In a comfortable game the Brazilian was booked in the first half and then replaced on 67 minutes with the score at 3-0 after having very little to do, not a situation which will disprove his notorious tag as one of the worst signings in Brazilian football last year.
Henri Lansbury:
The Englishman came on at the start of the second half as West Ham beat Nottingham Forest 2-1; two penalties from Mark Noble were enough to secure the Hammers the win that took them top of the Championship. Lansbury had one good chance but was denied fantastically by Lee Camp who pulled off a wonderful reflex save.
Kyle Bartley:
Bartley started for Rangers as they slipped up to draw 1-1 at home to Aberdeen. The game was a farewell to David Weir as he said goodbye to the club he captained, but celebrations were cut short when Aberdeen took the lead through Arnason just after the hour. Aluko soon equalised but the Gers couldn’t scrape the win as they missed numerous chances, including a powerful header from Bartley.
