As we enter the final week of the January transfer window, the rumours are beginning to hot up. Today The Mirror are reporting that Liverpool are in talks to sign Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero.
The report claims Real are keen to sell Granero this month and are trying to find a buyer, with Arsenal previously linked with a move for the player (source: Daily Mail). However, the Reds are only interested in taking the attacking midfielder on an initial loan till the end of the season, with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer should things work out for both club and player.
Liverpool have been struggling to find the back of the net this season, with only 25 goals scored in the league so far. Much has been made of the poor form of Andy Carroll, while players such as Stewart Downing and Dirk Kuyt have also found it difficult to get on the scoresheet this season.
Their cause will be helped with the return of star striker Luis Suarez, who’s back from his eight match ban next week, but The Mirror as suggesting this hasn’t stopped Kenny Dalglish from trying to add to his attacking options for the remainder of the season.
Granero has struggled to establish himself at the Bernabeau, only making four appearances this season, but his versatility could appeal to Dalglish. The 24-year-old can play across the midfield and also operate as a second striker, so would provide Liverpool with plenty of options in the attacking third.
