Barcelona Target Flattered To Be Linked With Arsenal
Barcelona have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Anderlecht’s £10m-rated striker Matias Suarez, according to the Metro, with both clubs scouting the player.
Morning Gooners. Some transfer gossip for you today and according to the Metro, Barcelona have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Anderlecht’s £10m-rated striker Matias Suarez.
The report claims that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch Suarez on at least two occasions this season and that the Gunners held talks with the players agent in January over a potential move.
The player is quoted as confirming these reports while the 23-ear-old also says he’s flattered to be linked with a great side like Arsenal. Here is what the Metro quote Suarez as saying after being quizzed on reports linking him with a move to Arsenal:
‘I do not deny that my agent may have had contact with Arsenal. I’m flattered to be linked with this great club,’ Suarez said.
So, all sounds good doesn’t it Gooners? Well not exactly as the report then claims that Spanish giants Barcelona are also interested and they had representatives watch the Argentine hitman in action during Anderlecht’s 3-1 win over KVC Westerlo on Sunday.
Suarez is certainly a talent and has hit 42 goals and collected 34 assist during his 3-and-a-half years with Anderlecht, but it must be remembered that he’s only proven himself in a weak Belgian league and it’s far from certain he would make a major impact in the Premier League.
He would be a bit of a gamble, but with the Metro claiming he has a price-tag of around £10m, it could well be a gamble worth taking, if we can fight off Barcelona for his signature that is!
