Jack Wilshere risked the wrath of Arsenal fans after tweeting his support for London rivals Chelsea last night.
The Blues were in action trying to overturn a 3-1 deficit to Italian side Napoli at Stamford Bridge and when Frank Lampard scored a late penalty to make it 3-1 to Chelsea on the night, 4-4 on aggregate, the Gunners midfielder admitted he couldn’t resist celebrating the goal, before admitting he wanted Chelsea to progress.
He finished off his tweet with “come on you blues”. Here is the tweet that Wilshere sent from his official Twitter account @JackWilshere:
His tweet didn’t go down too well with some Arsenal fans, with responses like “remember that the next time a Chelsea fan abuses you on here mate #COYG”, “Wilshere’s gone down in my estimation now” and “no Jack! Wtf?”.
This is a tough one. Wilshere is clearly a passionate Englishman and wanted an English side to do well in a European competition. Is there anything wrong with that?
But there is also the issue of showing allegiance to your own club and as an Arsenal player, maybe it wasn’t the best idea to openly admit he wanted their London rivals to go further in a competition that Arsenal were knocked out of only last week.
