Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Encouraged To Bid For £20m Duo
Arsenal have been told that Montpellier will consider selling prized duo Olivier Giroud and Younes Belhanda this summer if they receive a suitable offer for them
Arsenal have been told that Montpellier will consider selling prized duo Olivier Giroud and Younes Belhanda this summer if they receive a suitable offer, according to a report by the Metro.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the pair in recent months but will face stiff competition from a host of European clubs. Bayern Munich are reported to be the front runners for striker Giroud, who has netted an impressive 19 goals in 23 games this season, while PSG are said to be interested in Belhanda.
The Metro claims that both players are valued at around £10m each, with Giroud said to have a €13 release clause in his contract, and Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has admitted his club will sell their prized assets if they receive suitable offers. Quoted by the Metro, Nicollin said:
‘If we’re offered a lot of money, Giroud and Belhanda will certainly go,’
The attacking duo have helped Montpellier climb to the top of the Lique 1 table, where they currently hold a three-point advantage over PSG and are well on course to be playing Champions League football next season. When asked specifically about the future of Giroud, Nicollin hinted the 25-year-old may be tempted to stay on with his current employers for another season.
‘He’s a clever boy. Another season at Montpellier, especially in the Champions League, won’t stop him earning a lot of money later on.’ Nicollin continued on the Metro.
