Arsenal Injury Update: Walcott, Diaby & Mertesacker

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given an injury update ahead of this weekends match with Norwich. Here is the latest news for Walcott, Diaby and Mertesacker.

Arsenal news

Arsenal play their penultimate game of the season on Saturday lunchtime and manager Arsene Wenger has given an injury update ahead of the match.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Wenger confirmed that we have picked up no fresh injuries from the Stoke game. Leaving the Britannia without any new injuries is always a bonus!

Johan Djourou should be back in contention after recovering from a foot injury, but there is bad news for Abou Diaby who is likely to miss the last two fixtures with a calf problem. It really has been a hugely frustrating season for Diaby and his lack of action could call into question his Arsenal future this summer.

There could be better news for Theo Walcott, with Wenger claiming he should return to training late next week and could be back for the final game of the season.

Finally, the boss gave an update on Per Mertesacker and it sounds like the defender should be fit in time to play at this summers Euro’s with Germany.

Here is what Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com:

on the latest news…

Basically there are no changes from the team at the weekend. We have small bumps and bruises from our last game at Stoke but everybody who started should be available again.

on Johan Djourou…

He should be back after his foot injury.

on Abou Diaby, who was on the bench at Stoke…

He is out. He has a calf problem. He will probably be out for the two games we have left.

on Theo Walcott…

If all goes well he is back in normal training on Thursday or Friday. Then we have to assess the risk of a setback, so we will see. If all goes well he could be back for the next weekend.

on Per Mertesacker…

He is doing well. Considering his shape and the fact he has six weeks to go, he should be available for Germany [at Euro 2012].
