Arsenal’s Euro Bid Dealt Double Injury Blow

Wojciech Szczesny - Injury doubt

Arsenal’s hopes of securing automatic qualification to the Champions League have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of the final weekend of the season.

The first blow came with the news that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is a major doubt for the game with WBA, according to the Metro.

Szczesny is said to be nursing a back injury, while other reports claim it’s a shoulder complaint, and the Pole is in a race against time to be fit to play on Sunday. Should he miss out, the unreliable Lukas Fabianski is in line to step in.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the chances of Fulham doing the Gunners a favour at White Hart Lane have taken a huge hit with the news that the Cottagers best player and top goal-scorer, Clint Dempsey, will miss the game with a groin injury.

This is a huge boost to Tottenham as Dempsey, with his 23 goals this term, was a real threat and without him it’s hard to see Fulham getting anything from the game.

Arsenal head into the final matches of the season one point ahead of their North London rivals but face a tricky game away to West Brom, in what will be Roy Hodgson’s final game before taking over as England boss.

If Arsene Wenger’s men slip up, Spurs will be on hand knowing a win over Fulham at the Lane will snatch third and with it secure automatic qualification to next seasons Champions League.
