Wenger – Giroud’s Gunner Fit In Well At Arsenal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed a deal for striker Olivier Giroud is 90 per cent complete and claimed the player will fit in well at the club.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed a deal for striker Olivier Giroud is almost complete, according to Sky Sports News.
Giroud is currently away on international duty with the French squad at Euro 2012 and drew interest from several clubs throughout Europe after an impressive season in Ligue 1, scoring 21 goals as Montpellier lifted the title for the first time in their history.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old in recent weeks, with a £13m deal taking the striker to north London thought to be close.
Wenger, speaking on French TV station TF1 on Thursday night, confirmed those reports are accurate saying a deal for Giroud is 90 per cent complete. The Frenchman went on to praise the striker, claiming he thinks the player will fit in well at the Emirates.
When asked about a potential deal for Giroud, Wenger said:
“Giroud didn’t play much (at the Euros so far), but he’s going to be an Arsenal player 90 per cent next season.
“I think he has exceptional potential and will integrate very well in our collective and our way of playing.
“He is a real team player and knows how to combine with other players and I’m sure he will do well with us.”
Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News
In order to make room for Giroud, Wenger will look to sell some of his ‘deadwood’, with the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Denilson, Marouane Chamakh and Carlos Vela all likely to leave Arsenal this summer.
FT Verdict
So, it looks like Giroud is in fact heading to north London. Arsene very rarely talks so openly about a player he’s interested in, unless it’s pretty much a ‘done-deal’. And 90% is pretty much a ‘done-deal’!
