Lopes: Moura Could Still Join United
Sao Paulo vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes has claimed talks over a deal that would see Lucas Moura join Manchester United may yet be resurrected.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Manchester United could still land Lucas Moura.
Sao Paulo vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes has claimed talks over a deal that would see Lucas Moura joining Manchester United may yet be resurrected, according to the Daily Mail.
The deposed Premier League champions have been strongly linked with a move for the talented midfielder in recent weeks, with Sky Sports News one of several outlets to report that United had a €35million (£27million) bid rejected last week.
It’s understood that Sao Paulo are holding out for a fee in excess of £30m for the Brazilian and United have so far refused to match that valuation, with Moura’s agent Wagner Ribeiro claiming the deal was now dead.
However, Lopes has claimed that the door is still open for the Premier League giants and they may yet be able to strike a deal for the 19-year-old:
‘I don’t rule out the possibility that in the future there are some sort of negotiations, because we received Manchester [United] with great courtesy and left open the possibility of more talks.
‘Manchester [United] came to us and their approach was serious. Other teams expressed an interest for Lucas, but only through the media in their countries.’
Lopes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
It looks like we may not have heard the last of this one. Moura could yet be a Man Utd player this summer, but presumably only if they up their £27m offer, unless United are able to persuade the Brazilians to lower their demands of course.
