Wenger: No New Striker Will Be Bought To Replace Van Persie
Arsene Wenger insists he had no choice but to sell Robin van Persie, but has revealed he won’t be making any further signings to replace the out-going Dutchman
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Arsene Wenger responds to RVP’s sale.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists he had no choice but to sell captain Robin van Persie, but has revealed he won’t be making any further signings to replace the out-going Dutchman, according to Sky Sports News.
The Gunners confirmed on Wednesday night that they had agreed to sell van Persie to Manchester United for a reported fee of £24m. The striker is now back in the UK after being an un-used substitute during Hollands 4-2 loss to Belgium and is set to travel north to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms on Thursday.
Boss Arsene Wenger gave his thoughts on the sale while working for French TV station TF1 and claimed he had little option but to sell his want-away skipper after he refused to sign a contract extension with the club.
“He is at Manchester United, unfortunately for us. The transfer was finalised in the afternoon,”
“It’s never great to lose players of that quality but he only had a year contract so we do not have a choice.”

The Frenchman went on to say he won’t be making any further signings in the striker department, despite calls from many sections of the Arsenal support to go out and buy a ready-made replacement.
Wenger claims he signed Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski earlier in the summer to compensate for the sale of van Persie. When asked about buying a striker to replace RVP, Wenger said:
“We have already recruited since we Giroud and Podolski who originally were intended to offset the departure of van Persie,”

So it looks like Arsenal will be heading in to the new Premier League season with their current crop of strikers. But will Podolski, Giroud and Chamakh be enough to push for a trophy?
