Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem after the player underwent a medical in Manchester today.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been looking to add a new left back to his ranks this summer after allowing Fabio da Silva to join QPR on a season-long loan deal.
A move for Everton’s Leighton Baines has been mooted but it seems Fergie has turned his attention to Buttner, with the Guardian claiming on Sunday the Red Devils have agreed a €5million (£3.9million) deal to sign the 23-year-old.
The player announced the move on Sunday, revealing he was on his way to Manchester to complete the transfer.
“I’m travelling to Manchester this evening [Sunday] and I’m very delighted that such a big club bought me.”
Buttner is quoted as saying by the Guardian.
The BBC are now reporting this afternoon that Buttner has arrived in Manchester to undergo a medical and agree personal terms, with the move expected to go through in the next 24 hours.
Buttner was part of the pre-Euro 2012 Holland squad that trained together before the tournament but he is yet to be capped at senior level by his country.
