Liverpool vs Arsenal: Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score

Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday afternoon with both sides looking to register their first win of the season.

Brendan Rodgers started life as Liverpool boss with a 3-0 loss to West Brom which was followed by a 2-2 home draw with champions Manchester City last weekend.

The Gunners have misfired in both their opening games so far having been held to 0-0 draws by both Sunderland and Stoke City, but both sides will be eager to get their first three points on the board this weekend.

Many Liverpool fans point to this fixture last year as a turning point in their season after Arsenal came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to an injury-time Robin van Persie winner, and the Merseysiders season subsequently fell apart, so they will be out for redemption today.

Team News

Brendan Rodgers is expected to give a debut to Nuri Sahin after the midfielder joined from Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

He is likely to take the place of Lucas Leiva who has been ruled out for up to 3 months with a thigh injury.

Daniel Agger is once again available after serving his suspension following his sending off against WBA. The Dane is likely to replace Sebastian Coates at the heart of their defence.

Raheem Sterling is expected to keep his place on the left after another excellent run-out against City last weekend.

Arsene Wenger is able to call upon the services of defender Laurent Koscielny again after he recovered from a calf injury. The Frenchman is likely to come in for Per Mertesacker despite the German’s steady start to the season.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny faces a late fitness test once again after missing last weeks draw with Stoke through injury. If he fails to recover Vito Mannone is expected to deputise once  more.

Theo Walcott could come back in after being left on the bench versus Stoke last time out, with Gervinho likely to make way.
