Arsenal Transfer News: Defender Set For January Move?
Arsenal’s Brazilian left back Andre Santos could be set for a return back to Turkey just 18 months after moving to the Emirates in a £6.2m deal from Fenerbache
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Andre Santos is linked with a move back to Turkey.
Arsenal left back Andre Santos could be set to return to Turkey just 18 months after moving to the Emirates, according to the Daily Mail.
The Brazilian defender moved to Arsenal from Fenerbache for £6.2m last August and was seen as a replacement for Gael Clichy, who had moved to Manchester City earlier in the summer.
However, the 29-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular with Kieran Gibbs being Arsene Wenger’s preferred choice on the left side of his defence.
Fenerbache’s Istanbul rivals Galatasaray are now ready to offer Santos a way out of North London in January after Chief executive Lutfi Aribogan confirmed their interest.
‘A move is possible. Andre Santos is one of the names we have on our list.’
Aribogan is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail
Despite showing glimpses of the player that persuaded Arsene Wenger to splash out over £6m on him, Santos has only managed 17 games so far for the Gunners and at 29 he’s at a stage in his career when he needs to be playing regularly.
He’s capped 22 times for Brazil but has failed to make the squad in recent months and with the World Cup being held in his homeland in 2014, i’m sure the defender is desperate to get back in the international reckoning and the only way to catch the managers eye is by playing matches.

Despite coming across as a friendly and very likable guy (if you follow him on Twitter you’ll know what i mean), and it must be said that he has never once claimed he’s unhappy at Arsenal, i wouldn’t begrudge Santos if he took the chance to leave in search of first team football.
