Meijer: Arsenal Are Favourites To Sign Huntelaar
Former Holland striker Erik Meijer claims Schalke striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar will leave the club in January with Arsenal favourites over Liverpool to sign him
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar heading to Arsenal?
Former Holland striker Erik Meijer claims Arsenal are favourites to sign Schalke striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar in January, according to the Daily Mail.
The former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan ace is widely regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in European football and further enhanced his reputation after joining Schalke in 2010, going on to score 40 goals in just 67 matches.
However, Huntelaar is in the final year of his contract with the German outfit and has so far been unable to agree a new deal. Schalke are desperate to keep hold of their star man and have offered him a three-year deal on improved terms, but the player is refusing to commit his future to the club.
The standoff has prompted intense speculation over the 29-year-old’s future with Arsenal and Liverpool among the clubs ready to make their move when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Former international team mate Erik Meijer, whose agent Arnold Oosterveer also represents Huntelaar, has revealed the striker has decided to leave in January and claims Arsenal are favourites to sign him.
‘According to the information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the winter,’
‘Arsenal FC are the favourites to land him.’
Meijer is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted on Thursday that he was in the market for a striker this winter as he is set to lose Gervinho and Marounae Chamakh to the African Cup of Nations, and Huntelaar is believed to be high on his wish list.
