Real Madrid are on the brink of signing Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea. The 32-year-old centre back joined Chelsea from Porto in 2004 for £19.8m when Mourinho was the manager. Carvalho has had a successful run at Chelsea winning three league titles; the FA cup three times, the League cup twice and the Community Shield twice. He has scored 11 goals and made more than 200 appearances for the Blues in the League, Champions League and all other competitions.
Carvalho who worked with Jose at Porto and Chelsea is now joining him once again at Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have agreed a fee of £6.7m with Chelsea and are now awaiting a medical to go through and for personal terms to be agreed between both club and player.
Ricardo is the fifth player to be leaving Stamford Bridge during the summer break after Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Juliano Belleti and Deco have all departed. The Portuguese international told a Spanish newspaper that it would be a dream come true to play for Mourinho at Real.
“It would be a dream to be able to play for Madrid, which I consider to be the best club in the world, and follow the orders of the best coach in the history of football.”
“With Mourinho I experienced two marvellous stages at Porto and Chelsea. To have the opportunity to win another Champions League with him at Real Madrid would be tremendous
Are Real Madrid strong contenders to win the Champions League this season? Will competition from Barcelona, Manchester United or Arsenal be too much?
