Liverpool vs Aston Villa Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday looking to continue their push up the table. Here’s a preview, team news likely line-ups and predicted score
Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday looking to continue their push up the Premier League table.
Brendan Rodgers endured a difficult start to life on Merseyside but his side have improved of late and now sit 10th in the table and within touching distance of the top-four.
The Reds came from 2-1 down at half time last weekend to beat West Ham 3-2 and they did it without top scorer Luis Suarez, who was suspended after picking up five bookings this season.
Villa arrive at Anfield sitting dangerously close to the drop zone with only goal difference separating them from 18th placed Wigan, but Paul Lambert’s side were boosted with an impressive win over Norwich in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night so should head into the game full of confidence.
Team News
Rodgers is able to welcome back Uruguayan striker Suarez after his one-match ban and he’s expected to come straight back into the side at the expense of Jonjo Shelvey after the midfielder stepped in for him last weekend.
Left back Jose Enrique is a major doubt for the game after being forced off against the Hammers with a hamstring strain, so Glen Johnson may revert to the left side with Andre Wisdom coming in on the right.
Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is out with a hamstring injury picked up against Norwich and he’s likely to be on the sidelines for several weeks.
Defender Ron Vlaar remains out with a calf strain but Joe Bennett and Enda Stevens are available again after recovering from injury. Long-term injury victims Richard Dunne and Gary Gardner remain out.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Villa have a poor record at Anfield winning just one of their last 16 visits, which came in 2009, and their away form has been poor this season. While Liverpool have had their struggles at times, especially at home, they seem to have turned a corner recently and had now won 3 of their last 4 games at Anfield and we can see the Reds winning this one relatively comfortably. Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa
