Arsenal and Chelsea were among the clubs who had scouts in the stands to watch Saint Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in action last Friday night.
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs watching Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal and Chelsea were among the clubs who had scouts in the stands to watch Saint Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in action on Friday night, according to the Metro.
Aubameyang has been in impressive form this campaign for Saint Etienne and scored his 16th goal of the season during a thrilling 2-2 draw with Rennes on Friday night.
The Metro claim Arsenal French-based scout Gilles Grimandi joined representatives from Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle in the stands to run-the-rule over the talented striker, who is said to have been dubbed as the ‘African Neymar’.
The report suggests Grimandi sent back a positive report to Arsene Wenger after watching the striker score a 65th minute equaliser and the Gunners boss will now send chief scout Steve Rowley over to France in the coming weeks to have his take on the Gabon international.
The lanky 23-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League with the Metro claiming Newcastle failed with a January move for the player, but Aubameyang is now said to be refusing to sign a new contract at Saint Etienne and the club may now be forced to sell him for a fee in the region of £10m this summer.

Arsenal could certainly do with another option up front as Olivier Giroud is the only real out-and-out striker at the club, while Chelsea could also be in the market for another forward this summer with Fernando Torres continuing to struggle for form in front of goal this season.
