Benitez Accuses Ferguson Of Snubbing Handshake

Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez has accused Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson of refusing to shake hands before Sunday’s 2-2 FA Cup draw at Old Trafford.

Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benitez has accused Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson of refusing to shake hands before Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 FA Cup quarter final draw at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard claims he was waiting to shake hands with Ferguson before kick-off but the United supremo just walked past him and ignored his attempts of a handshake.

Speaking after the game, Benitez held his post-match press conference and told Sky Sports News reporters that he was ready to greet Ferguson but they’d have to ask the United boss why he snubbed the pre-match ritual.

“I was waiting at the beginning. It’s up to him, I was in the way waiting.

“Ask him (why) if you are brave enough to ask him. It was his decision. I was ready and waiting. I have some education because I know a lot of people are watching so I know what I have to do.”

Chelsea came from 2-0 down to salvage a 2-2 draw and force a replay with Benitez’s second half substitutes turning the game as Hazard and Ramires netted two goals shortly after half time to peg United back. Benitez confirmed that no handshake took place after the final whistle either as he was too busy celebrating their comeback. When asked about a post-match handshake, he said:

“I was with my players celebrating,” Benitez told Sky Sports News

Benitez has a frosty relationship with Fergie since his time as Liverpool manager, when the pair regularly clashed during matches and in the press, so it’s no surprise they’re at it again now Rafa is at Chelsea.
