Sergio Aguero or Zlatan Ibrahimovic for golden boot
This season will see a number of forwards battling it out to be the premier league top goal scorer with Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic the favourites
This season will see a number of top forwards battling it out to be the premier league top goal scorer. The favourite is undoubtedly Sergio Aguero but a great long shot would be new Manchester United signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Sergio Aguero has a phenomenal goal scoring record in the premier league. In his five seasons at Manchester City he has scored over 20 goals in three of those seasons. He won the golden boot award in the 2014/15 season after he found the back of the net on 26 occasions. Last season he scored 24 times and fell just one goal short behind Tottenham forward Harry Kane.
Paddy Power have Aguero as their favourite to be the top goal scorer in the 2016/17 premier league season with odds of 16/5. Aguero is guaranteed to play the majority of games up front for new manager Pep Guardiola and with all the attacking power playing behind the Argentine; he is destined to score a bucketful of goals this season. David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and new signing Leroy Sane will give City some immense firepower going forward and Aguero will be the likely beneficiary scoring the goals.
He is not, however, the only classy forward in Manchester. New Manchester United signing Zlatan Ibrahimovich will be desperate to put on a show in his first season in England. The bookies have the Swede at 8/1 to win the golden boot next season and he is surely someone to consider putting a wager on. At PSG he scored a staggering 113 goals in 122 appearances and while most would argue that the French league is incomparable to the high standards of the premier league, you still have to put the ball in the back of the net.
At 34-years-of-age, Ibrahimovic does not have the energy to go charging round the pitch for 90 minutes but has the ability of always being in the right position at the right time. Jose Mourinho will use him as the main forward with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney slotting in around him or replacing him off the bench. United will not be playing European football next season and therefore will have well-rested players for each league game.
At 8/1 this looks a good bet for someone who doesn’t like backing the favourite in Aguero. Ibrahimovic’s big ego and willingness to conquer every team he plays against will go a long way to see him scoring many goals this season for Manchester United. With the attacking strength Mourinho has incorporated into the Red Devil’s squad, Ibrahimovich will be a strong candidate for the golden boot award come May next year.
